Communicable Disease Testing

Providing essential microbiology and virology/immunology testing for diseases of public health importance caused by viruses and other microorganisms, and supporting outbreak investigations and public health surveillance.

Laboratory Compliance

Working to enforce state regulations for clinical laboratory testing, substance of abuse testing, health screen testing on humans and carrying out the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) in Oregon.

Laboratory Response Network

Assisting sentinel laboratories by providing training and support in specimen collection, storage and shipment, evidence-control measures and recognition of chemical and biological terrorism agents.

Newborn Screening Program

The Northwest Regional Newborn Screening Program screens newborns for endocrine, hemoglobin, cystic fibrosis, and metabolic disorders - identifying infants who need immediate treatment to prevent developmental problems, mental retardation or death. Identified infants are tracked to ensure they receive appropriate medical care.

Oregon Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ORELAP)

ORELAP is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) to accredit environmental testing laboratories to national standards.

About Us

The Oregon State Public Health Laboratory supports state and local infectious disease control efforts, works to prevent metabolic disorders detectable at birth, and assures the quality of testing in clinical and environmental laboratories.

The Oregon State Public Health Laboratory is part of the Center for Public Health Practice.
